From Nursing to Pottery: Finding Joy in Creating by Hand

There’s something incredibly satisfying about transforming a simple lump of clay into a piece that can be used and loved every day

My path into ceramics began only recently. With a background in paediatric nursing, my days were often busy, structured, and focused on caring for others. While living on the Isle of Man, I enrolled in a pottery course simply to try something new. What started as a creative outlet quickly became a passion.

Since then, I’ve continued learning through additional courses, countless hours of practice, and plenty of trial and error. Every piece I make teaches me something new. Pottery has

encouraged me to slow down, embrace imperfection, and appreciate the beauty of handmade objects.

At LouLou Ceramics, each item is thoughtfully crafted by hand in my studio. No two pieces are exactly alike, and that uniqueness is something I celebrate. Whether it’s a favourite morning mug, a decorative vessel, or a planter like the one pictured here, my aim is always to create ceramics that bring warmth, beauty, and a sense of calm to everyday life.
